No one should be surprised by the results of this study that determined that more than 75 % of children in organized sports such as baseball or soccer don't reach the U.S. government's recommended amount of physical activity during their practices. After all, how much physical energy is expended while sitting on the bench, waiting a turn, or waiting out in right field for a ball to come your way?
I've been saying for years that it's a mistake for parents to think their children are getting enough exercise just because they've enrolled them in sports programs. Now there's research backing it up!
Teenagers who are gay or bisexual are treated worse by school and legal authorities, researchers say.
i agree, a lot of standing around involved in many team sports but the value of being in a team cannot be understated.

YES! Kids need to be going for walks and climbing trees, wading in creeks and catching frogs, digging in the sand and splashing in the mud puddles. THANKS for your advocacy on behalf of children and those of us caring and teaching them ,Rae!

I absolutely agree! Sports are beneficial for your kid's personal and social growth but nothing can make your kids more fit than letting them run and play under the sun, on the great outdoors! I let my kids come along with me when I go to a nearby fitness center in Glendale - a huge field there, complete with a playground for the kids to enjoy! Sports are great and all but most of the time, the 'gifted' kids are the only ones who are left to go play - a waste of money if you're investing on ways for your kids to get physically healthy and fit. If you really want them to grow up healthy and fit, just your kids do what they do best - be kids!

Aha ! nice search ..
I've never think about it. Even though I have cousins enrolled in a sports programs but I think its right. Not all members are playing in a team. There always be a good one and worst one but I think how could the bad one develop more skills if they don't even give any chance or teach them more ? am i right ?

Nice post, thanks for your advocacy to our young people. Kids really needs some sports to attend for their health improvement but for that case, I think it's not good.

Thanks for sharing the results of this study about exercise and organized sports. I wonder whether this study found parents/guardians were surprised by these results?

Reading this post was a sort of mini revelation for me as I previously thought that once your kid was on a sports team of some sort that they would be getting suitable amounts of exercise.
After reading this I can see why they might not.
Good to be aware of since physical activity is so important for us all.
Here is another viable option that might excite kids to exercise as it is doing for many adults nowadays;
