I don't think enough can be said about the need for recess. I am disturbed that withholding recess is now considered an appropriate consequence for a child not completed his/her homework.
Also, I recently saw "Race to Nowhere" and consider it a must-see to anyone who cares about the future of our children. What we are doing in our public schools (and many private ones, for that matter) is NOT working and does not teach children in the way that they truly learn.
Intentional teaching and assessment through observation (not checklists!) are also hot topics for me!

We do think alike, Lola! I've got withholding recess as punishment on my list already...and have you checked out the most recent interview to go up on the Educators Channel? It's on intentional teaching!
Will definitely have to do something related to authentic assessment...
Thanks, Lola!
